Transformation of Life; Now and Then
No cake cutting, no partying but still our birthday’s during childhood was a great celebration. This celebration unlike now was not meant for a day but used to sustain for a week or so, As we were receiving different colourful greeting cards and letters on and around the date from our dear ones residing in near and far off places. On approach of festivals too there was a huge responsibility on us which was preparing a beautiful greeting getting stamps and posting to all our near ones. For the writings on the card we had to ponder over dictionary’s so that we do not mean wrong. Like this our leisure time was spent fruitfully. Unlike the younger generation now who get bored in short time and go mad not knowing how to pass their time, eventhough the wishes (b’day or festive) are sent by large number of known and unknown friends. It seems like they do not enjoy life to the extent what we did.
During vacation a stay at grannys place seems like a great inconvenience for the teenagers today as their so called primary requirement like availability of mobile network, power, privacy and so on will not be fulfilled. But for us when we were of their age, it was the most awaiting moment as we used to meet all our cousins, play, chit chat. Hogging food whatever was prepared by granny, attending functions, jatre at temple and on and on..
Our ideology of weekend outing is spending time with family so that we become more relaxed and get more attached with family members and getting closer to nature. But the current generation get themselves involved in clicking infinite number of selfie’s (which they never even see in future) uploading them in various applications and get engaged in looking into the comments, instead of relishing that particular moment or view or people.
Not that clicking pics, using cellphones, uploading, checking the messages should be prohibited. Children getting attracted to such distractions is natural but it is the duty of us as a teacher or as a parent to guide them from their younger days itself and make them aware of the pros and cons of excess use of technology. Highlight the importance of family and friends and how life can be spent with loads of enjoyment and satisfaction.
